"The Sound of Young
America"; inventors of
crossover. It was a
Detroit
indie label started by songwriter
Berry Gordy; it soon came to feature more great songwriter-producers than you can shake a stick at. But the later emphasis on charm schools, choreography, and
Vegas glitz was its downfall; in the 70's, Gordy moved it to
Hollywood, completing the process in which it lost its
soul.
