Moe Koffman was a king of Canadian jazz, playing the saxophone and flute. He was born in 1929, and died in 2001.

Moe's biggest hit was the Swinging Shepherd Blues, on which he played the flute, recorded in the year 1958, and subsequently covered by over a hundred other artists, including Ella Fitzgerald.

Over his fifty year career, Moe Koffman released more than thirty record albums, and worked alongside most of the greats of jazz. He was awarded the Order of Canada for outstanding services to the arts in 1992.
