Midnight Stranger was a "game" produced near the end of the golden age of CD-ROM experimentation. It was a non-linear adult adventure with a complicated storyline.

You are an anonymous (presumably male based on the game's sex scenes) person deposited in a nameless city at midnight. The game's interface was simply a large image of your current location. To move around, you click the mouse where you would like to go. When interacting with another character, a bar at the bottom of the screen appears. This is called the "Mood Bar"; on the left, it's red, and it fades to green towards the right. The color you click determines the approximate mood of your response.

Video is used in one of two ways. Typically, when interacting directly with another character, a small (160 x 120) movie will be overlaid on the character's head on the screen. When a lot of motion is occurring, or another perspective is necessary (sex scenes, watching movies in the cinema) a movie of the same size is placed in a little box in the middle of the screen surrounded by black.

There are 16 odd, stupid, hot, or otherwise interesting characters to talk, errr click to, including:

• The redhead*+
• The businesswoman*
• The tough chick in the dance club*+
• The scared woman in the cafe*
• The barmaid
• The projectionist with an alien artifact
• The hoodlum (with whom you get to break into a car!)
• * means a character you can have sex with. + means nakedness.

All the Quicktime video in this game is easily viewable outside of the game (in the Mac version at least) making it completely unnecessary to play the game if all you want is the sex videos (as I did when I was 14).

You actually needed to be 18 to order this game from Educorp, but since I was 14 with a pile of Christmas money, I just slipped in the name with a bunch of other games I wanted and asked my mom to order over the phone. It came with a free pair of headphones!

A lot of this info might be out-of-date, since I threw away the game (lost $60 right there) in a fit of paranoia. If you can find me a copy (either the Mac or Windows version) that would be nice. :)

Strategy guide to getting laid in Midnight Stranger.
• To have sex with the redhead or the businesswoman:
  1. Get to the restaurant.
  2. When the maitre d' tells you the kitchen is closed, click on the two ladies at the table behind him.
  3. Keep clicking on the green end of the Mood Bar^tm.
  4. Eventually you will go home with one of them.
     • REDHEAD:
       1. When you get to her place, keep clicking on the green end of the mood bar
       2. Eventually, you will get the special action video screen. You will start kissing her. She will take off her top and bra and climb on top of you.
     • BUSINESSWOMAN:
       1. Keep clicking on the green end of the mood bar.
       2. Eventually you will start kissing. She will strip and turn around and make all kinds of moany noises.
• To have sex with the tough chick in the dance club
  1. Get to the dance club.
  2. Click on the bar (the one with booze, not the Mood Bar^tm) after watching the three people dance.
  3. Keep clicking on the green end of the mood bar until she invites you to her place.
  4. Keep clicking on the green end of the mood bar at her place. Eventually, she will take off her clothes and you climb on top of her. At the end she will light a cigarette and chase you away.
• Scared girl in the cafe:
  1. Get to the cafe.
  2. Keep clicking on the green end of the mood bar until she invites you home
  3. At her place, click on the RED end until the action movie screen appears. You will then start raping her. this is bad. If you enjoy doing this, you are a bad person.
