Different from the Marijuana Party of Canada in that while the national party is a single-issue protest party, the BC (British Columbia) party is a Libertarian Party in disguise.
In addition to the legalization of marijuana, they support such things as legalization of prostitution, a school voucher system, and an end to gun control. Not surprisingly, in Canada none of these policies are very popular except for legalizing pot, so they choose to only widely publicize that aspect of themselves.
During the last BC provincial election in 2001, is was widely published in the press that with the impending Liberal sweep, if the Marijuana Party could win only one seat they had an (infinitesimally small) chance of forming the official opposition. However, this was not to be, and the party rode the CannaBus (their campaign bus) off into sunset.
