Marcel Bich bought a factory building in 1945 and began producing parts for pencils and fountain pens. He developed the first high-quality ballpoint pen and launched it in 1949 as the BIC pen. Sales skyrocketed to 42 million annually within three years. Bich moved BIC to the United States and began to produce lighters and razors.
