the
coastal area of the
U.S. state of
South Carolina, a northeast-southwest running strip parallelling the
Atlantic Ocean. On its other side is the
Midlands, also called the
Sandhills. (Some
maps, those produced in the city of
Charleston or farther south, consider the Low Country to be only the southern part of the coast, but that's not what's taught in the rest of the state.) The Low Country is equivalent to what's called the
Tidewater in
Virginia and some other Atlantic coast states.
