Lothar is a
German name which means "famous warrior," and is
cognate with the
French name "
Lothair" or "
Clotaire." Famous Lothars include:
- East German statesman Lothar Bolz (1903-1986)
- Lothar, the gigantic Nazi henchman played by Austrian actor Tiny Ron in the 1991 film The Rocketeer.
- Lothar of the Hill People, an oafish yet surprisingly articulate barbarian played by commedian Mike Myers in a recurring Saturday Night Live sketch.
- Holy Roman Emperors Lothar I and Lothar II.
- Former German footballer and current head coach of the Hungarian national team Lothar Matthäus.
- German mathemetician Lothar Collatz, proposer of the famous Collatz conjecture, which remains unsolved.
- World War I flying ace Lothar von Richthofen, the younger brother of the legendary "Red Baron" Manfred von Richthofen.
