Poet appearing in such publications as New England Review, The Paris Review, Raritan, and Slate. In the spring of 2002, his first book-length collection of poems, The Invisible World, will be published. The poems consider the possibility of other worlds under the surfaces of everyday objects and how they relate to humanity's view of itself and society.
Having already reviewed the book, the Academy of American Poets awarded John the 2001 Walt Whitman Award for his work. He has already won the New Millennium Poetry Award and has been a Starbuck Fellow in Poetry for years.
In addition to poetry, Canaday has also written non-fiction work such as The Nuclear Muse which analyzed the increasing usage of "bombs" as imagery in literature and poetry. It also deals with how nuclear physicists used literary conventions to describe their worries in written language. |
