| Radio adventure serial, sponsored by Wheaties. It started out in 1933 as a CBS program on station WBBM in Chicago; it moved to NBC in 1936; Mutual in 1941; and finally to the Blue Network/ABC in 1942. Jack, his youthful pals Betty and Billy, and a token adult (originally Uncle Jim, later on a reformed villain named Victor Hardy) traveled all over the globe fighting evil. The show thrilled its young listeners with a combination of super-science and exotic locales until its cancellation in 1951.
Of the one episode of the serial I've heard, the entire fifteen minutes was taken up by the other characters talking about how Jack was crossing a treacherous ice floe. Perhaps it was an off week for the writers. |
