| Nowadays, this can be seen all over the world at football (soccer) matches. In some cases people throw bottles and bricks, fire flares and fight with each other. At large football tournaments there have been fights covering streets and hooligans destroying nearby buildings for no real reason. They didn't even loot. During the world cup in 1998, when cafes were destroyed all over France and there was so much hooliganism that Germany's national team offered to withdraw from the tournament (as they felt their country's supporters were largely responsible), I saw a photograph in a newspaper of two men in trench coats arguing with a referee. The caption read "Hooliganism in the fifties."
