A supernatural creature from Orkney. The word "Hogboon" derives from the Old Norse Haugr Bui, 'mound-dweller', and this is indeed where they are said to live. If well-treated and respected, a hogboon living in a mound adjacent to one's house could bring good luck to the family. Offerings of food were often made to this end, and the hogboons themselves seemed to develop ties to the family, often moving with them to a new mound when they changed home.
