The HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG key is a pointer that refers to the current configuration being used in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CONFIG sub-subkey. This tracks the hardware profiles and the changes that occur on a regular basis, such as changing users with different hardware configuration settings.
