George C. Scott

(1927 - 1999) American actor.

Scott won an Academy Award in 1970 for his role in Patton, and a number of his other roles are the same type of character -- the gruff, almost insane military type. The Patton role is a toned down version of his brilliant peformance as General "Buck" Turgidson in Dr. Strangelove. He's tremendous in that film next to Peter Sellers.

Other films include They Might Be Giants (the one that gave the band its name), Taps (another military role), Firestarter, and a voice in The Rescuers Down Under. Scott also had a tv career, though the only thing I remember seeing is his performance as Scrooge in a 1984 version of A Christmas Carol.
