The world "genki" has the connotation of "
healthy" - hence the
standard greeting "Genki desu ka?" - literally, "are you healthy"? The two
kanji mean "
beginning" or "
origin" and "energy" or "
spirit".
Hence, "genki" can mean either simply "I'm fine" or "I'm bouncy as hell and I'm not going to sit still anymore." It's all in the context.
