Scene 1-
Someone's hands are moving on a guitar, and writing on a pad of paper, interchangeably. We hear the beginning guitar part of Firefly being played, and we see the lyrics being written.
Ben (Voice Over): I've written a lot of songs, and just like others, each of mine has its own story behind it.
(Fade to Black)
Ben (VO): I try to make each song I write a lesson. Not so much something that I needed to teach others, but a portrayal of the lesson that I learned. I don't know much about teaching, but I've followed my heart for most of my life, and it's never led me wrong. On the contrary, it has taught me more than I ever thought it could.
Scene 2-
Announcer (VO): In a life of uncertainty, love is far too rare a thing to pass up.
Ben and Heather talk. Then, as the tension in the music rises, Ben and Heather get more intense, and start to pull off some of each others clothes. No nudity is seen, but it should be clear where the scene is headed. Fireflies start to come out and appear as the scene progresses. As the voiceover continues, the scene fades out.
Ben (VO): I could have told her how I felt a thousand times. We were both just foolish kids, too afraid of being hurt to tell say what we both knew. Too busy listening to our heads, and too scared to follow our hearts.
Scene 3-
Hank climbs into the car, and starts it up. Heather tries to wave to Ben as the car pulls away, and at the last second he looks up and blows her a kiss. Heather blows him one as well, and then the car turns a corner, and drives out of sight.
Ben (VO): To be separated from her was, to me, the same as a living man being separated from his heart. Heather was a part of me.
Announcer: Certain stories come to us, to teach us a lesson.
Shot of Hank speaking to Ben. Hank is looking at the camera.
Hank: Ben, don't ever let the world beat you down. You have a fire inside of you, which most people can't even imagine, and you have a talent, which most people can only wish for. Don't ever let that fire go out. Always fan those embers. Keep that fire burning. Keep going.
Scene 4-
Announcer (VO): In a time of trials, there are those who inspire us too much greater ideals. There are those who give us hope, in overcoming their trials.
The camera moves up over a hill, in a cemetery. Over the hill, we see Ben and a group standing at a memorial service. Ben is standing over the coffin, and looking down at it.
Ben (VO): I wanted so badly to be released from my father. I hated myself, because I had wished and prayed for a release.
These next several scenes are transition scenes. The camera should stay in the same spot, but Ben should appear to fade in and out, going back and forth to the grave, as the day progresses.
Announcer (VO): Trials from without.
Ben (VO): Having come to face a point such as mine, many people become split within themselves. They, same as I, stand at a fork in the road; a fork with far too many paths. I was torn. I felt that I had fallen from some plateau, some balance within my life. I hadn't enjoyed my old place, necessarily, but it was, at least, consistent.
Scene 5-
Ben stumbles into the bathroom, and stares into a `streaky,' dirty mirror. He splashes water on his face, and then sits/falls down onto the floor, leaning against the tub, and drops his head into his hands. Then he starts to cry.
Ben (VO): When that wall is gone, and we take off all our masks, all that is left is the essence of the person. Losing my father... It threw me around, and beat me until all of the masks fell off. I began to discover things about myself that I never knew. I discovered fears that I had, different parts of myself.
Ben looks up from crying. We see one red, wet eye peering past his hands, looking directly at the camera. Ben begins to shake.
Ben (VO): I had tripped and fallen over the edge of the cliff, into a valley of despair, and I was having a hard time crawling out.
Announcer (VO): Trials from within.
Scene 6-
Heather reads the papers, and begins to cry, and lets her head fall into her hands, and the papers. Dr. Macey walks over and puts a comforting hand on her shoulder. He says a few words to her, appearing to try to give her hope. Despite this, Heather appears to be no more comforted than before.
Ben (VO): I guess that we all have our own demons. I don't really know what everyone has, but we two, Heather and I, had many some strong demons. Mine was in my mind. Hers was in her blood.
Scene 7-
Announcer (VO): This is a story of hope, and courage. A story of fighting against the odds, and of hanging on to the ones you love.
No audio throughout the next scene, but the conversation continues.
Heather: Sweetie. (Coughs very hard, and she leans up to put her head next to his ear) Ben...Ben, I love you. Ben...
Heathers head drops down to Bens shoulder. Her hands slides down and hits his hand. This brings him out of his memories, and as his mind registers what she said, his eyes open wide. Firefly starts playing quietly in the background.
Ben: Heather, stay with me. Heather! Heather! Heather I love you. Heather, please don't go.
Ben wraps his arms around Heather and holds her to him, as he sobs and weeps.
Ben: (Quietly) God no! Heather, please. No, stay with me. Heather...No...
Camera "Zooms" out, upward, away from Ben and Heather. Fade through the roof of the hospital, and pans upward to the sky.
(Fade to Black)
Ben (VO): Someone once said "music is the ultimate tale of humanity. It is the definitive characteristic that separates us from other creatures." Maybe it isn't music as much as the emotion that it inspires. I've never seen an animal shed a tear, and yet every time I play this song, I remember her, and a tear finds its way down my cheek. She once asked me where I got my inspirations from, and I never found a way to tell her... But they say that the spirits are everywhere, and I have to believe that she might be listening. So Heather, wherever you are, I want you to know that I love you. I want you to know that this song is for you.
(Fade In)
Ben and his band are playing on stage as we enter into the final chorus of Firefly. As they sing, we see a tear make its way down Bens' cheek, and he closes his eyes.
(Rapid Fade Out)
