I first came to
Everything2 in January of 2000. After a month of semi-solid noding, I entered a dark period of
Internet non-connectivity - about six months. (Yes, it was scary and bad, but I made it, mostly through
alcohol and
avant-garde movies.) When I returned to
E2, I discovered the
Voting/Experience System that had been implemented in my absence. After a now-embarassing test of
E2's new waters called "cat vomit," I concluded that
Everything2 is Decadent and Depraved.
Now, a few months later, I find myself five user levels higher, about 2400 (like my first modem!)
XP richer and buoyant upon over 500 more
writeups. I have more little crinkly lines in the corners of my eyes, for I am wiser. With my newfound wisdom, I would like to announce that:
Everything2 is NOT decadent and depraved.
And so, a note to
nuphies: while you're hootin' and hollerin' and stirring up all sorts of
brouhaha about
downvoting, and the obsession with
XP and
pedantic editors, you could be
nodin' and accumulatin'
XP and doin'
research and
earnin' yer B.S.
Then, when you get a big head and a lot of
votes per day, maybe people will listen when you start
hootin' and-a hollerin'.
