Epic Games, Inc., based in Raleigh, NC and founded in 1991, is a computer game developer, previously known as Epic Megagames. In this previous incarnation they also acted as a computer game publisher, using the shareware model to release both their own in-house developed games and various third-party games.
Since they released Unreal, they have moved from shareware to the more mainstream games market, and many feel they have in some way betrayed themselves by doing this. Nowadays they are mainly working on the Unreal engine, which they license out to other developers.
Some of their more well-known employees are Tim Sweeney, Warren Marshall, Cliff Bleszinski, Mark Rein, Steve Polge, Jack Porter and Erik de Neve. They have an extremely low employee turnover.
