After I read this node, I realized that Matt and I are actually quite close to this. We probably have rice four or five times a week, and the rest of the time we either don't cook or we go to our parents' (mmm... home-cooking).
One cheap way to help out rice alone is veggie stir-fry. Once you have a bottle of canola oil and some stir-fry sauce, they last for awhile. Then you just buy cheap veggies at the store with change you find in the couch. I once bought enough veggies for two people for 68¢. (Actually, I really embarassed myself - I didn't have the 68¢ in my wallet and I had to use my Interac card.) I think it was a carrot, a stick of celery, and a head of broccoli. Just use half of each for two people for a meal. Should keep you slightly more healthy than rice alone. |
