Delusions held commonly by people who are too hard on themselves or extremely self-conscious. They are also experienced commonly in schizophrenia, psychosis, and myriad psychological afflictions.

Delusions of reference are the same as ideas of reference except, the subject does not aknowledge the coincedental nature of the events he experiences in delusions. He believes occurences that reflect his situation are, in fact, communications about him or his predicaments.

An Example:

A man suffering from severe depression after his wife divorces him. One morning, he reads a newspaper article on divorce, and then later, writes and angry letter to the author for making fun of him. The man thinks that the writer intended for him to see this article and believes, despite never meeting the author,that it was written with him in mind.
