The Colonial State Bank (originally the taxpayer-owned State Bank of New South Wales) was once one of Australia's more worthy banking institutions. The Bank was acquired and absorbed by the nation's dominant institution, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, in the year 2000, with all branches and branding finally disappearing in May 2001.
