Thanks to the audio recordings of what may go down as the major case of the era, Bush vs. Gore, we heard Thomas utter not a single sound. Nothing. Nada. Didn't even clear his throat. Turns out this is standard operating procedure for him.
A day after the conclusive ruling by the Court on the case, Thomas was addressing a group of schoolchildren, and was asked (pointedly -- ah, out of the mouths of babes) why he is typically silent.
His response is worth reading: "Usually, if you wait long enough, someone will ask your question." Nice lesson for the schoolkids, Clarence.
