If you don't like the normal recycle bin name or icons that come with Windows, you can change them. If you are an egomaniac, you can change the name to something like "Toddcycle bin", or whatever tickles your fancy. Other options are to rename the recycle bin to "Landfill", "Dumpster" or, if you like the way Apple does it, "Trash Can", and replace the icon with the appropriate pictures. Here's what you do:

  1. Fire up the registry editor.
  2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
  3. Change the value to the name you want for the recycle bin.
  4. Under "Default Icon", change the value to the file and resource ordinal where your "empty" icon is stored.
  5. Change the "Empty" value to the same.
  6. Change the "Full" value to the file and resource ordinal where your "full" icon is stored.
  7. You are done. Minimize everything, click on the Recycle Bin, and hit "F5" to refresh it. Your changes should appear.

The standard disclaimer: editing your registry can cause loss of hair and/or skin pigment, deaths of in-laws, illness in pets, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, chills, open sores, blackening of finger nails, and the need to reinstall Windows.
