A group of English poets active in the mid-seventeenth century, associated with the reign of Charles I, which was from 1625 to 1649.
They were different from the so-called Metaphysical Poets, such as John Donne and George Herbert, who also wrote at about the same time, in that their topics were more likely to about earthly love than spiritual.
Ben Jonson is usually cited as their primary influence, and they were even known to call themselves The Sons of Ben.
