Bopomofo, also called Zhuyin, refers to an alphabet that can be used to write Mandarin Chinese. In addition to being used next to difficult Chinese ideograms to indicate their pronunciation (as Ruby notation), Bopomofo also figures into a Chinese text input method that translates letters typed at the keyboard into ideograms.
