Boondocks is one of the very few
Filipino
derived words in
English
. The original
Tagalog
word is "
bundok
" (pronounced like boondock but with the
accent
on the
second
syllable
). Literally, bundok means "
mountain
." Even in Tagalog, it is often used as a
derisive term
for the
countryside
as well.
