Books, damn books, and comics

there are three kinds of books: books, damn books and comics.

books include your average paperbacks. they have a more or less standard size and are easy to pack as many of them together form a flat surface with little deviation in terms of height.

damn books are heavy and/or oddly shapen. most of the textbooks you save because there's that one chapter in back you refer to every two years or so fall into this category. so do most coffee table books, encyclopedias, and some children's books. the name for this category of books comes from trying to carry a heavy, unweildy box of such books and dropping it on your foot or another inconvenient place, causing you to exclaim, 'damn books!'

comics can be the best, or the worst, depending on what sort of comics geek you are. if you're a hardcore superhero comics geek and keep every comic you own in its little plastic baggie and organize them according to date, title, and artist, you're likely to find transporting them similar in diffculty to transporting heirloom dishes or fine art. however, if you're an indy comics geek and most of the comics you buy don't even come with plastic baggies, you can generally just set them in the bottom of a box and get on with it.
