An article on Salon.com article pointed out something interesting about this character. When you first see him you think Parker and Stone are gay bashing. In reality, they are doing the opposite. Big Gay Al is hilarious, and breaks down one's barriers about homosexuality. As cpwright points out, his debut episode is obviously pro-gay. Another example of this type of humor is The Ambigously Gay Duo by Robert Smigel. Racial humor has been used effectively on SNL and other comic mediums to effect our thoughts on racism. Humor can be a very powerful tool and this character is a good example how.
