An extra pair of handles attached to the ends of the
handlebar of a
mountain bike, pointing forward and
slanted up at 5 to 45
degrees.
It gives the rider an extra hand position which provides extra
strength and leverage when climbing slopes, and offers some protection
for hands and shifting gear when crashing. The
downside is that there
you can't reach the brakes with your hands on the bar ends, but who
needs to brake when going uphill?
