From the
Bronx, by way of
Haiti and
Montreal. A
70s/
80s pop music auteur; an accessible
avant-gardist, jumbling
rock, musicals, and several eras of black-
diaspora musics. As a subversive
disco producer, he gave many urban kids their first taste of
Pink Floyd (a cover of "
Have a Cigar"),
Duke Ellington reeds, and
Dylanesque social commentary (the original version of his "
There But For the Grace of God Go I", produced for a "band" called Machine). Co-conspirator and bassist in
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band; co-founder of
Kid Creole and the Coconuts.
