Located in Anchorage, Alaska on the south shore of Lake Hood, the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum details the history of Alaskan aviation. This is a more interesting subject than one might initially think it would be. In the early part of the 20th century, the only practical way to get to certain parts of Alaska was (and still is) by airplane. If you're an aviation buff, this is a must-see.

• Browse the exhibit galleries, which contain photographs, memorabilia, and artifacts, along with museum quality scale models of vintage aircraft.
• Watch archival footage of Alaska's air pioneers in the museum film library and theater.
• Watch seaplane activity on Lake Hood from the museum observation deck.
• Visit the restoration shop and watch work in progress on the museum's planes.
• Take a narrated air tour via seaplane.
• Visit the gift shop, where you'll find aviation-related books, jewelry, videos, and other merchandise.
