(October 26, 1985 to be Exact.) 1:20 AM, in the dark parking lot of Twin (Lone) Pine(s) Mall, a combination Delorean/Time Machine successfully accelerated to 88 miles-per-hour, transporting a dog (Einstein) one minute into the future. 15 minutes later, Marty McFly is transported 30 years in the past to November 5th, 1955, causing considerable damage to Old Man Peabody's ranch.

A novel by Anthony Burgess. Part One is actually an "interview", a meditation on George Orwell's 1984, while Part Two, the novel proper, presents a different sort of dystopia (or "cacotopia"), with England remade by permissiveness, punk, and Petrodollars, and a welfare state gone wrong. Just as Orwell's creation was meant to be about "the future" of 1948, Burgess drew a bleak caricature of his pre-Thatcher Britain.
