Öland is a small-ish long (150km), thin, island, just east of Kalmar, in Småland, Sweden. It is famed for having more windmills than Holland, with over 400 on the island, today, some lived in. The island is reached by the second-longest bridge(*) in Europe, from Kalmar, and the main town is Borgholm.

(*) Superseded by the one crossing the one crossing the Øresund/Öresund between Malmö and Copenhagen.
