Halliburton is a large
oil well service company. It was founded in 1919 by Erle P. Halliburton in the small town of Duncan,
Oklahoma. From its humble beginnings in southwestern Oklahoma, it has grown into a worldwide
conglomerate whose
patents and techniques have revolutionized the oil well service
industry. Much of Halliburton's current work is on offshore drilling. Over the years, Halliburton has made a large number of
mergers and
acquisitions, broadening its focus from just drilling to such things as
geological survey
software,
hydrocarbon processing, and
compressors. Its most famous merger was with
Dresser in 1998. Halliburton is also currently partnering with
Royal Dutch/Shell on several projects.
Richard B. Cheney, Vice-President to President George W. Bush, used to be the CEO of Halliburton.
